Purpose.

A few months ago I was bold enough to ask the Lord what my purpose was and He said, “daughter, your purpose is to love.”

That didn’t sit well with me.
Just to love? How cheesy is that?
What about going into the nations?
Or fighting against sex trafficking?
Or building another ministry?
What about that big vision or dream that I can chase after?

But maybe I have a misunderstanding of what purpose really is.
Maybe it doesn’t come from the end result, but from being.
Maybe it comes from the posture of my heart.
Maybe it starts from what I’m a part of today.

I think we get caught up in asking God,
“what am I going to do in the future? What are MY dreams, MY goals, and MY passions?”
Maybe we’re asking the wrong questions because this makes it about us and not about Him.
No matter what answer we get it has the potential to set us up for disappointment because of our limited understanding and we want more or something better.
But what about what He’s doing now?
What about your purpose and calling today?

I’m beginning to think that was the point of His response to me that night,
my purpose can be fulfilled today.

It’s not something I have to work towards but work from.
It comes out of being in relationship with Him, looking at His example, and being that version of myself.
Our calling/ purpose isn’t the something to be waited on, and I can’t even begin to tell you the number of Christians who have told me they’re waiting for God to reveal their purpose and calling.

Here’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for,
your calling and purpose has already been revealed to you
and He died on the cross at Calvary.

He said to go make disciples.
He said not to worry about tomorrow for tomorrow has troubles of it’s own.
He said the fruit and harvest will come out of the depth of your relationship with Him.
Your calling is to be like Jesus today; follow His example, let go of control, stop waiting around, and let Him do the rest.

Maybe instead of making purpose more complicated than it needs to be,
we need to figure out what parts of us look like Him and apply it to our lives.

What does your calling look like today?
Because it might look different tomorrow and I don’t want you to miss it.
